MLB All-Star Game Voting

Does anyone care to argue that the MLB All-Star game is a load of crap now that the fans vote in the teams?

Exhibit A:

Jimmy Rollins has the most votes among NL Shortstops with 936,377 votes. The next closest is Hanley Ramirez with 871,917. Third is J.J. Hardy with 662,474. Behind him are Jose Reyes and Miguel Tejada.

Shall we compare 2009 statistics?

Exhibit B:

Jimmy Rollins
.222 AVG / 3 HR / 18 RBI / 34 R / 10 SB
.261 OBP / .583 OPS

Hanley Ramirez
.332 AVG / 8 HR / 26 RBI / 36 R / 8 SB
.401 OBP / .939 OPS

J.J. Hardy
.228 AVG / 5 HR / 24 RBI / 27 R / 0 SB
.310 OBP / .668 OPS

How about Miggy?

.354 AVG / 6 HR / 33 RBI / 32 R / 2 SB
.378 OBP / .905 OPS

Miggy is 5th? I am tired of the All-Star game being a popularity contest. This obviously happens year after year, and at many other positions, but the SS results made me sick. Is Rollins an all-star caliber player? Most years he is. This year he is batting 6th and struggling. And how about Manny? Last time I looked he was the second leading vote getter for the OF. Sick.

I do like what the MLB did with 'making the all-star game count', but the voting system has to go. Especially when EACH fan gets 25 ballots. Just give each fan 1 ballot if you are going to keep this crap up - what's it matter if Rollins got 40,000 votes or 1,000,000 votes - it's all relative to the guy below him anyway.
