As everyone in Canada remembers, the Three Stooges (Dion, Duceppe and Layton) signed a coalition agreement back on December 1. Here's a link to the story when it originally broke on CBC.ca.
Quotes to take note of from that story:
-The NDP leader also called on the prime minister to "accept this gracefully" and not bring further instability by fighting the verdict of his colleagues in the House.
-The accord between the NDP and Liberals will expire on June 30, 2011, unless it is renewed. The Bloc is only committed to 18 months.
This past week, Ignatieff and the Liberals agreed to support the Conservative's budget.
Shortly thereafter, the reactions of both Jack Layton and Gilles Duceppe (Jack and Gilles went up the hill.........) came out in the media.
This one paragraph from that article says it all.
Mr. Layton immediately slammed Mr. Ignatieff, saying the Liberals no longer had the right to claim to be the government-in-waiting.
"We have a new coalition now on Parliament Hill. It's a coalition between Mr. Harper and Mr. Ignatieff," Mr. Layton told reporters.
Mr. Duceppe said when the Liberals shared their budget-amendment proposal with him, he declared, "The coalition is dead, it's finished, it's over."
So let's review........about 2 months ago, the Three Stooges were actually trying to convince the Governor General that they were a stable alternative to the Conservative's, and that they could actually all get along for about 30 months. All to avoid another election as the Conservative's had just won one a couple of months earlier, with a strengthened minority.
Now, 2 months since that Coalition agreement was formed, both Jack and Gilles are fuming that Ignatieff and Harper actually worked together to push through a budget that was desperately needed. They have both declared the coalition dead.
FIRST of all, the sole reason for the forming of the coalition was SUPPOSED to be because it would be in the best interests of the people, and they would provide more stimulus for the economy than the Conservatives. Now that Jack didn't get his way (which is having a piece of power, which is what he really wanted all along), he's taking his ball and going home. He obviously didn't care about Canada or Canadians the entire time.
SECOND of all, if half-baked ideas like this coalition are formed again in the future, can the Governor General even take them seriously? I mean look at this one........the Three Stooges promised that the agreement would last 30 months......yet it didn't even last 2 months. Is that REALLY the kind of stability that anyone would be looking for? Especially in an unelected group of people taking over the Government?
Hey Jack, I suggest you take your own advice and "accept this gracefully". That or get the hell out of Canada, because that would make me happier.
